For some reason, I forgot to upload this pic. Love this one!
Thanks so much to my feather throwers. Check out a behind the scenes picture of this: [link]

---Costume construction---

I completely remade the sleeves and panels and resewed all 90 bells with the triangles. The 20m gold 'piping' is self-made. Flowers on panels were handpainted on same cloth as skirt and then appliqued onto the panels and inner sleeves. There's a total of 5 layers to the skirt: hoopskirt, petticoat, ruffled dark pink, light pink and then the panels on top.

Ball was something I bought from the garden section which I painted and added the tassle. Feather was cut, painted, heated and bent into shape.

Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! :worship: I am but a meek amateur Sakura compared to you!

I totally sympathize with making the costume though... especially the piping! Mine had probably 5 miles of 1/4 inch bias tape to make... I do not miss trying to cut those perfectly straight lines out :faint: Your bells and sakura panels came out so professional looking too! It truly is amazing. If you don't mind me asking, for the dark pink skirt, is it a circle skirt, or a full A line kind? And for the light pink one, do you have any tips on how you did the rounded edges so even and pretty?

Everything about this outfit and shot is very flattering to you. The colors of your costume go very well together, it's obviously very well made, the hairpiece is spectacular, and the photography is appealing too. If I make this outfit someday, I will definitely refer to yours! :heart:

If you're interested at all, this is my latest Sakura outfit, along with my mom as Queen Nadeshiko. We pair made both outfits; fortunately, we specialize in different parts! Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated! Sakura , Sakura and Nadeshiko

Oh wow, thanks so much for the compliments! I'm so flattered you want refer to my costume if you make it.

The dark pink skirt underneath is basically an A-line dress to my knees, but with ruffles for the bottom (that's why it looks so much 'ruffly-er' than the light pink on top). The light pink one is A-line (though if I could remake it, I would do full circle skirts for both because its prettier when you are twirling <3). For the hems of the light pink skirt, I used hemming tape (its basically like heat and bond in strips), that's how I got the edges so crisp and clean.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for sharing!! I'm glad to hear confirmation of wanting to use circle skirts... so far, that's what I've done, but always wondered if it was necessary (since I'm only a beginner sewer). I like your idea of using half A-line half ruffle though, especially if the fabric is too expensive for full circle skirts all the time ^^;

Thanks for your comments on mine, also~ The shoes were a pain, but surprisingly comfortable!

Love it! ^^ But wait, aren't long full petticoats more a victorian thing? Seems kinda unusual to wear under ancient oriental-style clothes except korean hanboks... XDD

It is not traditionally 'correct' to wear a petti, but it looks very flat and unflattering without one =( Plus the artwork it was based off of shows the dress with more of a poofy feel. Dem CLAMP drawings lol.

Ah yes, pettis do make a dress more flattering, so totally agree. ^^

When I draw my girls I tend to go all out with mid-victorian epic hoops and ribbons all over. XDD Here, a sample: [link]

But you're right, even a little bit of fullness brings out more charm in a dress, even the shorter ones. And boy does CLAMP know this. I really think they should have been fashion designers instead of manga artists, don't you? x3
